An Introduction to Naruto

note: minor spoilers are on this site.

I will talk about a comic called Naruto. Naruto is in a magazine called Shonen Jump. Naruto is a manga series (Japanese comics are called manga) by Masashi Kishimoto .

Naruto is about a twelve year old ninja who is an orphan called Naruto Uzumaki. Naruto is pretty much hated around his entire village which is called Konohagakure (Village Hidden in the Leaves). the reason for this hatred is part of the storyline and I don't want to spoil it for anybody, so I won't tell what the reason is.
But I will explain Naruto's friends, teachers, and who is his suspected family. Naruto has a teacher called Kakashi Hatake who is the son of a man known as White Fang.
White Fang was the strongest shinobi in the world before he died. Even the Sannin seemed weak before him.White Fang held teamwork and protecting his teammates above all else.
Obito Uchiha; a good friend of Kakashi once said "those who ignore and break the rules are lower than garbage. But those who don't care for and protect their teamates are even lower than that."
Kakashi is extremely strong and is almost unbeatable in combat.

Naruto has two teamates called Sakura Haruno and Sasuke Uchiha. Both also train under Kakashi.
Sakura has a crush on Sasuke and is far more interested in him than she is in training to be a kunoichi (a female ninja). Naruto has a crush on Sakura. Ironically Sakura at first can't stand Naruto, later she warms to him and treats Naruto as an equal.

Sasuke is one of the two last survivors of entire clan who was slaughtered years before by his brother Itachi who has recently joined an organization called the Akatsuki, which is made up of S class criminals. Sasuke has sworn to kill Itachi. Sasuke also has a Sharingan. Sharingan is an ocular jutsu which can copy an opponents jutsu (special techniques that lets somebody blow fire, clone themselves, etc.).

The World of Naruto and The Five Great Shinobi Nations

The world of Naruto is far different than ours. here is a map ( Naruto is from the Leaf Village)

In the world of Naruto there is many different nations containing hidden villages where shinobi (ninjas)are trained. the five strongest nations are called the Five Great Nations. for example, one of the Great Nations is the Land of Fire which houses Konohagakure, which is where Naruto lives.

Each of these Nations has a leader called a Kage or shadow. there is the Hokage (fire shadow), Mizukage (water shadow), Kazekage (wind shadow), Raikage (earth shadow) and the lightning shadow (the Kage name of this one is unknown for the moment). so far there have been Five Hokages, five Kazekages and possibly five of each of the others.

In this section I will briefly talk about the history of the five Hokages. all of which are carved on a mountain in Konohagakure

The First Hokage

The First Hokage was the Hokage that built and shaped Konohagakure into what it is today. he ended up fighting the Third Hokage when the first was brought back to life under the conrol of Orochimaru.

The Second Hokage


The Second Hokage was the brother of the First Hokage and was the teacher of the Third Hokage. He also fought the Third Hokage when he was under he control of Orochimaru.

The Third Hokage


The third Hokage trained the three Sannin (The Three Great Ninja of Konoha Legend) he fought against Orochimaru and the First and Second Hokages. Although he defeated the First and Second Hokages and almost defeated Orochimaru.

The Fourth Hokage


The Fourth Hokage was the student of Jiraiya(who is one of the Sannin). the Fourth Hokage is called a genius and killed The Nine-tailed Demon Fox, but unfortunately was killed in the process. He is also suspected to be Naruto's father.

The Fifth Hokage

The Fifth Hokage is the only female Hokage so far. Her name is Tsunade. She is also one of the three Sannin and is extremly strong (she can shatter stone walls with her fist). She originally found the name Hokage a joke and never wanted to be the Fifth Hokage.
After much persuasion by Naruto she decided to be the Fifth Hokage.

The Akatsuki

The Akatsuki is a small organization made up of mostly S-class criminals. This organization is made up of nine people. Some members names are Itachi Uchiha, Kisame Hoshigaki and Sasori of the Red Sand.
they are well hidden and do mainly covert operations. they are aiming for the Tailed Demons A.K.A Jinchuriki. and kill many people in doing it. The Akatsuki so far controls four of the Tailed Demons.
Jiraiya knows a lot about the Akatsuki and is training Naruto to fight them and retrieve Sasuke from Orochimaru.
note:There are other villains in the Naruto series as well, such as Orochimaru, Kabuto, Zabuza Momochi and Haku.
